Another Fun-Filled Day on the Gunflint Trail
March 13th, 2008 | News | 0 Comments
The trails are marked, the lakes are plowed and the teams are ready to run. There are over 20 teams registered for the Mush for a Cure Fun Run scheduled for March 15th, 2008. The day will begin at Gunflint Pines where teams can have breakfast and register before heading out onto the lake. Teams will line up on the lake and get ready for the sourdough start. Tucked in their sleeping bags without their boots on they will anxiously await the sound of the starting shot.
When the gun goes off the mushers will hustle to get their boots on and teams harnessed so they can take off down Gunflint Lake. They will travel past Gunflint Lodge before getting onto the snowmobile trail and heading toward Tuscarora where a turnaround awaits them. Then they will run back down the trail to Poplar Lake and Trail Center Lodge. There will be plenty of room for spectators on Gunflint and on Poplar so be sure to come and cheer on your favorite team.
There are many local mushers participating in this year's event. The youngest one is Jessica Berg-Collman who will be mushing for a cure. Jessica has raised around $1000.00 and rumor has it another musher has raised even more. All mushers have raised pledge money in order to benefit the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
Prizes will be awarded after the run, but not for winning. The person who earns the most in pledges along with the person with the best pink outfit will both win prizes. The pink outfit contest is not limited to participants so if you are coming to watch then think pink and you may just win. There will be other prizes for participants, food, music and fun throughout the day at Trail Center.
We hope you will join us for this fun-filled day on the Gunflint Trail!
