Gunflint Trail Canoe Races Gunflint Trail Canoe Races
Canoe races are on Wednesday, July 16, at the Gunflint Lodge waterfront. You are invited to be a part of the celebration. To participate in the friendly competition, gather a team of paddlers, and ask guests and visitors to join in this evening of northwoods fun. Proceeds from the evening go to the Gunflint Trail Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, with three stations serving the Trail from Swamper Lake to Saganaga Lake.

The races begin at 6 p.m. with the long distance triangular course set up so canoes will be visible for the whole race. An array of race categories in various age and gender brackets will be run throughout the evening. The climax of the event is the gunnel pumping, a real sight to cheer.

Other activities on the schedule include:
Food Service, beginning at 4:30
Three super raffles, including the grand prize, a 17 foot Wenonah Spirit II Royalex canoe donated by Wenonah Canoes of Winona, MN Minnow races for the kids, Aqua Golf, and a new eating contest event with contestants representing areas along the trail.
