Chik-Wauk Museum & Nature Center

Meet the people who lived here, worked here
and made sure this place would always be here.

Named “Jack of the Pines” in the Ojibwe language, Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center stands as a tribute to the Native peoples, pioneers and uncharted beauty of northeastern Minnesota.

Resting on 50 acres at the end of the Gunflint Trail near Saganaga Lake and housed in the hand-hewn granite masterpiece that was Chik-Wauk Lodge, the Center features:

Museum Exhibits

  • Artifacts and oral histories from as far back as prehistoric times
  • Historical Society displays and other rotating exhibits
  • Hands-on children’s exhibits
  • Video histories

Nature Center

  • A walk through time—50 acres of trails lined with interpretive information
  • Guides to wildflowers, plants, birds, rock formations and the world around you
  • A first-hand look at the Boundary Waters without an overnight excursion
