Biking

Biking

Trails that’ll take your breath away. Literally.

We’re not talking about the scenery (which, by the way, is truly breathtaking). We’re talking about the Laurentian Highlands: glacier-carved treks through hills, rocks, cliffs and some of the most technical terrain that’s ever met your mountain bike.

If you’re in for a more leisurely ride, the Gunflint’s abandoned railroads, ski trails and logging roads will be right up your alley.

All-told, the Gunflint Trail offers over 200km of wilderness mountain biking trails throughout northeastern Minnesota.

It’s like riding a bike, but there are few things to remember:

  • never, ever ride into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area—it’s for foot- and canoe-travel ONLY
  • take a map, a compass, and make sure you know where you are
  • make sure someone else knows where you are, too
  • bring a kit to fix your bike and yourself
  • bring plenty of water
  • wear a helmet, or hitting the trail might hit back hard
