There’s always plenty of ‘room.
The rich soils surrounding Minnesota’s Gunflint Trail are perfect for growing mounds of edible mushrooms. But before you start to pick, make sure you can completely and positively identify the mushrooms at hand. To do so, follow these handy tips:
- If possible, go on a mushrooming foray with an expert.
- Read a Mushrooming book like Start Mushrooming, by Stan Tekiela and Karen Shanberg
- Collect some mushrooms and identify them with related books. You’ll develop a quick eye for the necessary details for mushroom identification.
- Ignore any rules of thumb. The only way to truly know a mushroom is safe to eat is to positively identify it.
