Cross Country Skiing

Is your heart racing from the excitement or the workout?

Beginners and experts agree: cross-country skiing along the Gunflint Trail offers some of the best conditions and terrain you’ll ever find. And with over 100 inches of annual snowfall, you can strap on the skis from November to April.

The Gunflint Trail Nordic System offers:

  • 200km of marked, groomed and tracked cross-country ski trails
  • skate skiing
  • lighted trails for night skiing
  • Boundary Waters backcountry for breathtaking views
  • Laurentian Highlands terrain for advanced skiers and plenty of room for the novice, too
  • Rental equipment
  • Lessons

The Central and Upper Gunflint Trail Ski Systems are privately maintained, and not part of the Minnesota Ski Pass system. Trail tickets are complimentary to guests at participating Gunflint Trail lodges. Other skiers may purchase daily ski passes, multi-day passes or season passes. The fee for skiing on these trails covers the high costs of trail grooming.

The exception on the Gunflint Trail is the Banadad Trail, which requires a Minnesota Ski Pass.
